A small start-up company based in the Conwy Valley of North Wales, surrounded by the Snowdonia National Park. I wanted a light weight and beautiful tandem so I built my own at home in carbon fibre and began to develop designs and production techniques.
Hello, I’m Jonny Charlton and I bought a tandem! I had always loved cycling and bought a tandem just for fun but it became the best cycling I’d ever done and made the best memories! Our first tandem was wonderful for touring but made of steel and very heavy, weighing 62lbs so it was difficult to lift onto the car roof or travel abroad, and its components were older technology. I wanted a modern tandem with all the contemporary features of our solo road bikes, internal routing, integrated seat posts and configured to use the latest drivetrains, brakes and derailleur systems found on modern solo bikes. So, I set about learning and making to create my first carbon fibre tandem weighing just 26lb. Things soon grew into a business plan driven by a desire to keep innovating beautiful tandems.
I joined the Business Wales and Innovate UK Rapid Growth Business Support schemes in October 2023 and receive on-going technical design and business development support that has enabled me to grow a business idea into a company positioned for growth with design and innovation at our core.
Innovation and customisation of tandem design and geometry is at the heart of my ethos to create fast, light beautiful tandems that give people the best riding experience whatever their style of tandem riding, gravel, road, track, sporting, leisure, adventure or competition.
Housed in the historic buildings of the Bodnant Estate, the design studio is evolving its capacity to manufacture from carbon cloth to complete bikes made in Wales and selling to the world.
The beautiful North Wales coast and Snowdonia National Park are a paradise for road and off-road cycling, a constant inspiration for bike design and test riding.
